Thoughtful Air New Zealand Management kindly arranged a farewell celebration scenic flight around the Hauraki Gulf for all available Flight Engineer Officers, and their partners, on an Air New Zealand Boeing B747-219, ZK-NZX, prior to it being sold to Virgin Atlantic as G-VSSS
After this nostalgic flight, they attended a social function at the Lakeside Convention Centre at Mangere, to mark the final demise of the role of Flight Engineers within T.E.A.L. / Air New Zealand.
Thus ended an historic era in New Zealand's commercial aviation spanning almost 60 years.
